Dhaka School of Economics (DScE) is deeply shocked at the demise of its Former Adviser Syed Ataur Rahman. We pray for the Maghfirath of his departed soul. Our deepest condolences to the bereaved family.

The former Secretary of Ministry of Education Syed Ataur Rahman died at United Hospital, Dhaka this morning. He was 63.

His first Namaj-e-Janaza was held at Takwa Mosque, Dhanmondi, Dhaka. Second Janaza will be held at his village home Richi under Habiganj sadar upazila of the district after 8.00 pm and will be laid to rest there.

He left behind his wife, one daughter and one son and host of relatives, friends and admirers to mourn his death.

Syed Ataur Rahman Joined as Secretary of Ministry of Education in 2009. Before that he was Secretary Ministry of Fisheries and Live Stock for four years. He retired from the government service in 2010.

Syed Ataur Rahman stood first in SSC examination from Habiganj government high school under Comilla Board. He passed BCS examination in 1979 and joined in government service. His son Rafid is a final year student of MME department in BUET and daughter Rishat is working in a bank after taking MBA degree from Dhaka University. Syed Ataur Rahman was suffering from cancer.
