It is ironic that while we will be shipping foods overseas this year many of the country’s unfortunate humans will have to go to bed at nights unfed and underfed. While authority level efforts meant for raising purchasing power of those people holds some potential toimprove the situation, any likely reduction of food price too could look similarly appealing. What should food price be in Bangladesh thus looks a delicate question. Is the marketing margin, which apparently looks quite too high, competitive? Some previous studies note that the answer is yes. Also since the so called globalization characterized the world’s economies since the 1990s it is pertinent look into if, unlike what some studies conclude, capitalist type profiteering and rent seeking has meanwhile already characterized Bangladesh’s rice market.
