About the Department
The Department of Environmental and Resource Economics (ERE) at Dhaka School of Economics was established to address Bangladesh’s growing need for expertise in the fields of economics, environment, and sustainable development. Founded under the broader mission of Dhaka School of Economics to promote advanced studies and research in applied economics, the department launched South Asia’s first undergraduate program in Environmental and Resource Economics in 2015. The department aims to become a Centre of Excellence through high-quality, research-oriented education and interdisciplinary academic practices.
Faculty members possess strong expertise in climate change economics, environmental policy, water and natural resource management, energy, and sustainability studies. The department also conducts applied research focusing on poverty, environmental challenges, climate resilience, water governance, and other emerging development issues. Through innovative teaching, research, and policy engagement, the department prepares students to contribute effectively to sustainable economic and environmental development at national and global levels.
