Dr. Saidur Rahman Lasker is a retired Agricultural Economist of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations in Rome, Italy. He worked there for 25 years until 2002, specializing to the concern of the developing countries and world jute economy.

His particular interest was to promote market for jute against synthetics. Prior to that he served with the Commonwealth Secretariat in London as an Economist for 6 years. He started his career as an economics teacher in the Government Colleges of Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet.

He obtained a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, U.K. in 1973. He graduated from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh, in Economics with honours in 1960.

He is an ardent educationist and philanthropic social worker. He is one of the founding Directors of the East West University in Dhaka and a founding member of the Governing Council of the Dhaka School of Economics. He believes in reducing the unacceptable gap in the areas of education and health between urban and rural areas in Bangladesh and for this reason he has established a Kinder Garten School, a High school and a rural hospital in his native village of Khanderpara in the district of Gopalganj, Bangladesh.
